MONTICELLO - From Thursday to Sunday, the village will be bustling with activities for people of all ages at the 2010 Homecoming.
"This is the biggest event of the year," said Wanda Wilkinson, Homecoming coordinator.
"Monticello: Moving Forward Year After Year," is the theme of this year's event.
What makes Homecoming special is that many of the activities are free, and there are numerous events for people to enjoy, she said.
Homecoming festivities begin Thursday with softball tournaments and carnival rides.
Friday events begin at 5 p.m. with a fish boil at the Octagon Shelter near the lake; Teen Tent opens at 7 p.m.; and the local talent show at Ford Theater starts at 7:30 p.m.
Additional entertainment will finish the evening Friday in the beer tent with music by Electric Blue from 8 p.m. to midnight.
There are several activities Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. with the Poker Run. Other activities include helicopter rides, the carnival, canoe races and a triathlon at Lake Montesian, a teen tent and music by Technical Knock-Out.
Sunday's events include church services at Montesian Gardens and Washington Church, a chicken barbecue at the Octagon Shelter, water fights at the pool, a parade at 2 p.m. and music by the Greg Anderson Band and Dan Reilly.
Softball, mud volleyball and 3-on-3 basketball games take place throughout the weekend.
Another highlight, Wilkinson said, is the homemade pie for sale. Some of the best cooks around make pies to sell, she said.
"You never know what kind of pie will be available so you want to get there early," she said.
Throughout the weekend there also will be food stands hosted by local service organizations.
