SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk School district voters on Tuesday elected incumbent Steve Holland and newcomer Dustin Williams.

Voters chose the pair over incumbent Kevin Lowe and newcomer Lowell Dalsoren in the race for two seats.

Holland had 57 votes, and Williams, 51.

Reacting to the win, Holland said he felt good to be able to serve another term, and that his first priority is to continue moving the district forward.

"As a board, we need to figure out a strategy for this budget," Holland said. "We can't go backwards."

Holland and his wife have four children, with the oldest a senior at Black Hawk. The youngest is 4.

Holland is a Black Hawk School graduate. After finishing high school in 1985, Holland went to the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where he majored in marketing education.

Williams is hoping he can help the community by serving on the board.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to be a member of the school board," Williams said.

A former teacher in the agriculture department at Black Hawk, Williams said he's hoping to work closely with the school board to make the most of education dollars.

"We can't provide quality education without being financially sound," Williams said in a previous interview with the Times.
