Hearing set in Freeport murder
Gavel

GALENA — One of the two people accused in the murder of a Savanna man waived his preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty to his charges in Jo Daviess County Circuit Court Wednesday,

Levi T.J. Meyers, 35, Freeport, Ill., pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, aggravated battery and concealment of homicidal death.

A status hearing will be held May 27.

Circuit Judge John Hay denied Meyers’ motion to reduce his $2 million bail Wednesday morning.

Danielle K. Heidenreich, 39, Savanna, is charged with concealment of homicidal death and obstructing justice.

Heidenreich’s preliminary hearing was moved to April 22 at 1 p.m.

Meyers faces 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted of the murder charge. Danielle Heidenreich, whose bail was set at $250,000, faces two to five years in prison on the concealment charge and one to three years in prison on the obstructing charge.

The charges are in connection with the death of Keith Heidenreich, 48, Savanna, whose body was found in the Mississippi River at Miller’s Landing in rural Savanna March 10, the day he died, according to an online obituary from Schwarz Funeral Homes in Freeport.

According to the criminal complaint and the Sheriff’s Office news release, Keith Heidenreich was beaten to death in Meyers’ and Danielle Heidenreich’s house in Hanover. The body was then driven to Miller’s Landing and dumped in the Mississippi River.

The death was investigated by the Carroll County sheriff, Hanover police and the Northwest Illinois Critical Incident Response Team.
