MONROE - The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Green County Health Department have announced that Monroe Clinic and Mercy Brodhead Medical Center have been named a "BigShot" for their efforts to vaccinate children against diseases. The recognition is given to health care providers who vaccinate 90 percent or more of their young patients based on immunization data collected by DHS.
Childhood vaccinations are critical to protect children and everyone around them from diseases like measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis and cancer, among others. These organizations have been recognized for their diligence in keeping area children healthy.
The Wisconsin Immunization Program webpage shows parents what vaccinations children need and at what ages. Parents also can keep track of what shots their children have had and shots they may still need, through the Wisconsin Immunization Registry.
This is the first year of the "BigShot" recognition awards. DHS plans to make this an annual award to health care providers who show excellence in protecting children against vaccine- preventable diseases through strong immunization practices and high immunization rates.
