Green County starts mask initiative

GREEN COUNTY — Despite areas of the state beginning to reopen, Wisconsinites still remain at risk of contracting COVID-19. To help support the health of all Green County residents, the Green County Public Health Department released the new “Mask Up Green County” campaign July 7. With the partnership of numerous organizations across the county, this campaign will provide community leaders with resources to promote mask wearing, educate on mask wearing and facilitate access to masks.

The Mask Up Green County Community Toolkit and social media templates are available on the Green County Public Health website. This toolkit was created under the guidance of public health experts and will provide ready-to-use flyers, Green County specific mask information and steps toward participating in the campaign.

Some of the resources include:

● How to correctly wear a mask, why wearing a mask is beneficial and precautions regarding mask wearing;

● Details on how to make a mask, both with and without sewing;

● Information regarding where to access masks in Green County;

● Posters for the purpose of reminding people to wear their mask;

● Steps organizations and businesses can take to participate in “Mask Up Green County.”

While public health experts and frontline workers are working hard to prevent transmission and prepare for additional surges, employers and community organizations can also help slow the spread of the virus by promoting mask wearing. Because COVID-19 is a new virus, they are still learning how it spreads and how it works. Until there is a vaccine, the best thing to do is to adopt proactive public health measures as they get back the Wisconsin way of life. The actions taken now will allow them to manage outbreaks and community spread. They encourage the public to frequently monitor the Green County Public Health Facebook page and Green County Public Health website. Additionally, employers and community members interested in more information on “Mask Up Green County” can send an email to info@greencountywi.org or call 608-328-9390.
