MONROE - The Green County Sheriff's Department is participating in a national coordinated enforcement of seatbelt laws that started Monday and runs until June 5. Click It or Ticket, a campaign by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, aims to increase awareness of seatbelt laws.
According to a press release from the NHTSA, almost 50 percent of the victims of fatal crashes in 2015 were not restrained. This number increased to 57 percent during nighttime hours.
Sheriff's deputies will mobilize in greater numbers throughout the campaign with a focus on ensuring drivers and passengers obey seatbelt laws, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Department.
