Photo supplied by the Green County Historical Society
This photo from 1925 shows the seventh- and eighth-graders at Wallace School, which operated at W4297 Exeter Crossing Road south of New Glarus until 1946. The building is currently being remodeled into a home at that location. Arnold and Wilma Zumkehr, Bertha Kubly, Elizabeth Freitag, John Disch and Walter Voegeli are believed to be in the photo. The Green County Historical Society is trying to collect photographs of the students from all of the 120 one-room schools that operated in the county, as well as a history of those schools. If you are able to put names to the faces here, provide more photos of this or any other school in Green County or provide any history of any Green County schools, please contact Matt Figi at 325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net.
