Green County Historical Society: Remembering One-Room Schoolhouses

(Photo supplied by Green County Historical Society)
This photo of the students standing beside the Martintown School was taken in the 1930s when either Doris Eastman or Bernadine Flood was the teacher. The school was located at W232 Martintown Road in Cadiz Township. After the school closed in 1962, Randy Wyssbrod purchased the property and converted the building into the home that still stands at the same location. The Green County Historical Society is collecting copies of photos of the groups of students at each of the rural schools in the county so that they can be stored in one repository and have as many students as possible identified. The society also collects clerk's, treasurer's, and teacher's record books from the rural schools. If you can identify any of the people in today's photograph, or have any photos or records that you can share, contact Matt Figi at 325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net.
