Green County Historical Society: Palm Sunday tornado cleanup

Photo supplied by the Green County Historical Society
This photo shows a group of young people who were helping to clean up the mess of destruction after the Palm Sunday tornado, which passed through the area in April 1965. The headlines in the April 15 Advertiser said, "Disaster Hits Monroe" and "Damage May Exceed $2,500,000 in Tornado." Luckily, there were no fatalities from the event. The only people identified in this photo are Diane Wyss, Tom Schilt and Dan Grossen. The Green County Historical Society would like to know more about this effort, such as who the rest of the people are, who was in charge and where this photo was taken. Anyone with more information may contact Matt Figi at 608-325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net.
