Green County Historical Society: Bird's-eye view of downtown Monroe

Will E. Trukenbrod took this undated bird's-eye view of the downtown area from the old Monroe High School, probably in the 1910s. The updated building that housed Luchsinger Monument Works is located in the foreground, with the roof of the City Hotel beyond that. Notice how much of Spring Square was occupied by buildings. The White building, Ludlow Hotel, Universalist Church, First National Bank, Commercial and Savings Bank, Loofborouw Hospital and the Fitzgibbons building are some of the points of interest that can be seen in the background. The air-conditioned museum (seen to the left of the Court House) remains open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. If you have questions about the Green County Historical Society, please contact Matt Figi at 608-325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net.
