After 10 years of collecting additional photos, the Green County Historical Society plans to release the book "Monroe Area Pictorial History" later this year. Details about a pre-publication price will be shared in May. This book will contain 260 photos with captions. This photo from the book, taken by William Miller, looks north on 13th Avenue from just south of 14th Street. The Monroe Roller Mills can be seen on the left. The gas tanks of North Central Public Service Corporation, the former flouring mill, and the former Invincible Metal Furniture Co. are on the right. When the books are distributed this summer, more information will be given about the buildings pictured. A first glimpse at some of the photos included in the book will be offered at the Albany Historical Society meeting at its museum at 7 p.m. April 19. More presentations are scheduled in Monroe in May. Questions may be directed to Matt Figi at 608-325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net.
