MONROE - Green County Finance Director Rhonda Hunter died unexpectedly Thursday at University Hospital in Madison.

Hunter's death appears to be from a heart attack, according to Ursula Meier of Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, which is handling funeral arrangements.

Hunter, 61, Monroe, held the finance director position since 1994. County Clerk Mike Doyle said the finance director is responsible for working with department heads throughout the county in accounting policies and maintaining data on budgets.

Hunter began working for the county in 1980, and Doyle said she was an "excellent worker."

"It's going to be really hard to replace her," he said.

Hunter had staff underneath her, but her duties will not fall upon them in her passing, Doyle said. He said the position will remain vacant until a new person is hired.

A death notice for Hunter with visitation and funeral services information is on Page A2. A full obituary is pending.
