BRODHEAD - The Green County Clean Sweep will be held from Wednesday, May 1 through Thursday, Oct. 31 at the Green County Landfill, W2002 County SS.
The Clean Sweep is a hazardous waste disposal program for Green County residents, farmers and businesses. The collection sites present farmers and home owners with the opportunity to dispose of old, banned or unwanted chemicals. Small business owners can also dispose of hazardous chemicals at a reduce costs.
Drop-off times are from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of each month.
Items that are accepted include: home products, including oven cleaners, spot removers, drain cleaners, sanitizers and mildew-proofing products; herbicides, including atrazine, lindane, banvel, Round-up, brush killers, silvex and dinoseb; old fertilizer and weed and feed products; insecticides including diazinon, temik, DDT, chlordane, sevin and thimet; fungicides, including EBD, captan, funginex and copper compounds; mercury; wood preservatives; low pressure pesticide gas cylinders; oil based, marine, tractor, auto or lead paint; cadmium and lithium batteries; and various other products.
Items that are not accepted include explosives; radioactive materials; high pressure compressed gas cylinders; Freon 11 and 12; biological, infectious or medical waste; and latex paint.
Waste motor oil, antifreeze, small LP gas tanks and tires can be disposed of any time through the Green County Landfill. Antifreeze, waste oil and small LP tanks can be disposed of or free. There is a fee for tire disposal.
Materials should be left in original containers and should not be mixed with contents of different containers. Items should be securely packed in a plastic-lined container before transporting. Hazardous material should be kept away from children and animals.
Proof of Green County residency is required. Participants with more than 50 pounds of household products or 200 pounds of agricultural products must pre-register by calling the Green County Landfill at 608-897-8605. All items should be properly identified.
