MONROE — On May 14, the Green County Board of Supervisors:
● Welcomed new deputy county clerk Arianna Voegeli.
● Approved the purchase of two plow trucks for more than $426,000. Highway Commissioner Chris Narveson said the average age of the trucks in the fleet is 11 years, while some have reached 20 years. “We need to modernize,” Narveson said.
● Heard the annual Zoning Department report from Zoning Administrator Adam Wiegel, including the number of new houses built, decrease in zoning permits from 2018 on trend with the year before for structures like garages, decks and accessory structures. Wiegel said due to recent lawsuits against the Board of Adjustment, it exceeded a $12,000 budget for litigation to $19,000, but that court proceedings should be “finishing up soon.” He estimated a cost of roughly $25,000 to $30,000 spent on the proceedings since the suit began in March 2017, with about $12,000 allocated to legal fees in 2019 so far.
● Acknowledged Green County Health Services Director Greg Holcomb for 30 years of service. Holcomb is retiring.
● Approved the first round of county personnel policy additions, including the expected duties of department heads and the prohibition of intimate relationships between a supervisor and subordinate.
● Heard an annual report from Clerk of Court Barbara Miller, who said the court system had two jury cases in 2018, which is typical. She added that revenue had increased roughly $8,000 from 2017 because the county was collecting more in fees due to them through ordinance violations and that there was $211,000 in collection of fines because of newly implemented tax intercept practices. Miller said the court system was fortunate to have a good facility and said there would be a new digital recording system put to use to accommodate a shortage in court reporters.
