MONROE - The Green County Board approved raises for 11 workers in the highway department at its monthly meeting Tuesday.
Current hourly wages for the 11 laborer and semi-skilled employees range from $18.18 to $19.26. After the increase, their positions become classified as semi-skilled and skilled and their hourly wages will now range from $18.44 to $19.73.
The raises are based on job performance and how long the employee has been with the county, according to department head Jeff Wunschel.
All but two supervisors - Oscar Olson and Gordon Klossner - voted for the wage increase.

Supervisors unanimously approved the authorization for the county to join the Southwest Wisconsin Regional Revolving Loan Fund.
The approval of five counties is needed to create the collaboration as proposed - Green, Lafayette, Grant, Richland, Iowa. So far, one other county, Richland, has agreed to join the regional fund, according to Anna Schramke, executive director at Green County Development Corporation.
"We haven't heard any county that says definitely 'no.' We're willing to be a leader and step up," she said. The collaboration will open up access to more money for the county, while still retaining local control for loans of up to $125,000.
"We're talking about a lot of money coming in," Schramke said.
Supervisors unanimously approved state-mandated amendments to policies for the county revolving loan fund.
These include requirements that borrowers consider prospective employees with low- to moderate-income and no education beyond high school and "document that under usual circumstances this hiring practice" will result in at least 51 percent of such individuals getting hired.
Borrowers must also abide by an anti-piracy regulation that stipulates loan money can't be used to move jobs away from one area to another nearby.
"If someone is moving from Freeport to Monroe, you can't use that money," Schramke said.
Supervisors unanimously approved almost $350,000 in highway department purchases, for two replacement 2013 Western Star Cab Chassis for plow trucks and winter equipment packages that include a liquid brine system.
The brine "reduces bounce and scatter of salt," improves salt effectiveness by getting it to melt more quickly and is very cost effective, Wunschel said.
Supervisors unanimously granted petitions from local governments for $398.08 toward the construction of bridges on Puddledock Road in Adams Township and Elmer Road in Brooklyn Township. Local fees cover the rest of the construction cost.
