BRODHEAD - Stoughton Trailers/Brodhead and The Wahlin Foundation has awarded the Green Cares Food Pantry with a grant to combat hunger in Green County. These grant funds will be used to purchase food for pantry families.

The purpose of the Wahlin Foundation is to support the charitable needs in the general areas where the manufacturing plants of Stoughton Trailers LLC are located.

The Wahlin Foundation's history began with its founders, Don and Carol Wahlin of Stoughton. Purchasing the Stoughton Truck Body in 1961, the Wahlins struggled to make their new business a success, only to see it burn down a few years later. They then purchased the Academy Street plant in Stoughton and then expanded this building due to the growth of their business. In 1965, the company was renamed Stoughton Trailer Inc. and in the 1990s additional plants were built in Brodhead and Evansville.

In 1999, the Wahlins formally established The Wahlin Foundation to continue their legacy of giving to Stoughton Trailer communities.

The Green Cares Food Pantry, located just outside of Monticello, serves all low-income Green County families, including those from the Brodhead area.

Green Cares' hours of operation are from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays; from 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays; and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays.
