MONROE - Shoppers came to Wisconsin Community Bank on Saturday not only to look for good deals, but also to shop for a cure.

Shop for a Cure helps raise money for the American Cancer Society and for the Green County Relay for Life. Twice a year, in the spring and fall, vendors set up tables, people bring in baked goods and other items, and the public is encouraged to shop.

Jim Sinkule, Monroe, and his daughter Alyssa organized their baked goods and waited for people to come in to satisfy their cravings for sweets.

"We've got a little bit of everything," Sinkule said, pointing to cookies.

He's part of a Relay for Life team that raises money every year for the fight against cancer. Selling baked goods is just one of the things his team does to raise money, he said.

Rhonda Cory, Brooklyn, demonstrated hand care and offered beauty products. Amy Nelson sold jewelry. Both donated a percentage of their sales to help fight cancer.

"This is something our company really believes in," Cory said.

JoAnn Steuri, a member of the Green County Relay for Life committee, said the public always has supported the Relay for Life and Saturday's event was another example of how much people in Green County care.

Many of the people who are involved in Relay for Life are cancer survivors. Many others involved have friends or relatives with cancer.

The 2008 Relay For Life of Green County will be June 20-21 at the Monroe High School track. For more information, call (608) 662-7550 or visit http://www.events.cancer.org/rflgreencountywi.
