MONROE - The Swiss Heritage Series of the Turner Hall of Monroe, in cooperation with the Fine Arts Camp and International Exchange of Blue Lake, Michigan, will present a concert of the Pamina Girls Choir of Germany at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Grand Hall of the Turner Hall, 1217 17th Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m. for general seating.
Admission is by a suggested $5 free-will donation.
The singers will be staying in Monroe with host families for three nights as part of a two-week performance tour and mini cultural exchange in the upper Midwest.
The Pamina Girls Choir, directed by Klaus Braun, is a national vocal ensemble of singers, aged 12 through 18, who come from the Pamina District (Baden, Alsace, Palatinate), in western Germany/eastern France. Its repertoire includes a variety of international secular and sacred choral music in original languages, encompassing many musical genres and styles. Many of the pieces to be performed by the choir will be familiar to audiences.
Founded in January 2012, the choir made its debut May 16, 2012 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Strasbourg, France. The choir performs primarily in the Pamina region, but its focus lies in touring to international music festivals in Europe and the USA. Singers receive individual vocal training and must audition to be a member of the choir.
The Ratskeller Restaurant in the lower level of the Turner Hall will be serving dinner starting at 5 p.m. for those who wish to dine before the concert. Reservations are encouraged. To RSVP, call 608-325-3461.
