MONROE - Alan Gerber has been named Monroe's interim director of public works.
The Salary and Personnel Committee voted Tuesday to name Gerber, currently the city's engineering supervisor, as interim director. The city had solicited volunteers among department supervisors to fill the post vacated by Colin Simpson, who resigned recently.
Gerber was the only volunteer for the position.
Per city policy, Gerber will receive $200 more per month for two months or until a permanent director is hired. The committee will revisit Gerber's compensation if a new director is not hired after two months.
