MONROE - From the smiles and laughs it appeared Kutter Harley-Davidson's first family fun event to raise money for the Monroe Fire Department was a success.

About 25 motorcyclists came out to take part in the ride and many more people came out to take part in activities Saturday.

Proceeds from the day's events went to the Monroe Emergency Response Interagency Training (MERIT) Center.

Store manager Scott Golackson said the store wanted to help raise money for the center, which will be utilized by fire departments, law agencies, emergency medical services and local industries for emergency response and safety training.

"They came to me and asked if there was something we could do to help, and I was more than willing to help," Golackson said. "I'd like to see this become an annual event."

Along with the motorcycle rides, there were several other attractions for people, such as a climbing wall, a baseball toss and plenty of food.

Monroe firefighter Dan Briggs he was pleased with the number of people who turned out for the event.

The MERIT Center will benefit paid and volunteer firefighters across the county.

The goal of Saturday's event was to help raise money for a burn and search and rescue tower that simulates situations firefighters frequently encounter.

"It will be a tool and a resource for new firefighters and veteran firefighters," Briggs said.

Donations to the MERIT Center can be made at the Monroe Fire Department, Monroe Police Department or at Green County Emergency Medical Services.
