Fund-raiser pulled together by students

MONROE - Two Brodhead High School students want to use tractors to help raise money for the American Cancer Society this June during the Green County Relay for Life.

Morgan Turner and Morgan Peterson, both 16, were at the Monroe High School FFA farm toy show Sunday to make people aware of their plan for a tractor ride the weekend of June 21 as a fundraiser to fight cancer.

"Pulling Together for a Cure" is the name of their idea.

The two high school students plan to sign up as many people as they can to take part in the tractor ride.

People will pay $25 per tractor and will receive a free shirt and a lunch June 21. They will meet at Monroe High School and drive around the area to raise money. A final route hasn't been determined.

Turner said all of the money will go to the Relay for Life.

Registration is required by June 10; drivers need to have a valid driver's license and, if under 16, have completed a tractor safety course.

Jim Huffman, Brodhead, said the idea came from a similar fundraiser last year when tractor enthusiasts raised money for a Brodhead man.

"We were able to raise a lot of money and they (the students) decided to do it this year to raise more money," Huffman said.

The Brodhead FFA Alumni is helping organize the event, Peterson added.

More information is available by contacting Peterson at 558-6442 or Huffman at 897-4651.
