MONROE - Employees of Red Apple Inn, Monroe, expressed their thanks April 9 to members of the public for their compassion and generosity in their donations to the Friends of Red Apple Inn Fund.

Friends of Red Apple Fund was started by a patron of the restaurant following a fire Jan. 27. The fire caused extensive damage to the building, which forced the restaurant to close for a period of time, resulting in lost wages for the employees.

Some of the employees are single parents, while some have worked at the restaurant for more than 25 years.

The fund raised $730, all of which has been distributed equally to the employees.

Every year the Red Apple Inn serves a free Thanksgiving meal to the community as a way to show its gratitude for supporting the restaurant throughout the year. After the fire, patrons of the restaurant felt it was time for the community to show its appreciation to the members of the Red Apple Inn staff for their generosity to the public by serving many free Thanksgiving dinners without asking anything in return.

The fund, announced Feb. 13, was set up at the Wisconsin Community Bank.
