GALENA — A Freeport man and a Savanna, Ill., woman were arrested in connection with the death of the woman’s husband, whose body was found in the Mississippi River near Savanna in March.
Levi T.J. Meyer, 35, is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery and concealment of homicidal death. Danielle K. Heidenreich, 39, is charged with concealment of homicidal death and obstructing justice.
Meyer’s and Danielle Heidenreich’s preliminary hearing will be April 21.
Bond was set at $1 million for Meyer and $250,000 for Danielle Heidenreich. Both are in the Jo Daviess County Jail, according to a Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Meyer faces 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted of the murder charge. Danielle Heidenreich faces two to five years in prison on the concealment charge and one to three years in prison on the obstructing charge.
The body of Keith Heidenreich, 48, Savanna, was found in the Mississippi River at Miller’s Landing in rural Savanna March 10.
According to the criminal complaint and the Sheriff’s Department news release, Keith Heidenreich was beaten to death in Meyer’s and Danielle Heidenreich’s house in Hanover, then driven to Miller’s Landing, where the body was dumped in the Mississippi River.
The death was investigated by the Carroll County sheriff, Hanover police and the Northwest Illinois Critical Incident Response Team.
