Green County Food Pantry Inc.: Food for all

What we do (i.e. services provide/activities offered): Provide 3-5 days of food for any individual living in Green County

Our organization: 12-member board from various churches; three paid part-time staff. Approximately 384 volunteers per year.

What volunteers do for us: Receive donations, stock shelves, assist clients, pack donation boxes, unload trucks, food drives, pick up donations at local businesses

What we need: Donations to be shared with Backpack Buddies (program that sends food home with school children); general non-perishable food items; personal care items, fresh vegetables gleaned from gardens

Contact info: 608-329-7511. Mailing address: P.O. Box 15, Monroe. Pantry's physical address: 1129 17th Ave., Monroe.

Hours: Open Mondays 2 to 4:30 p.m.; donations accepted 8 to 11 a.m. Mondays; or call 325-3373 to make arrangements or for more information.

When and why I began volunteering: Arthur - when he retired from hospital (19 years ago). Letha - off and on that long or longer. It was at the United Methodist Church at one time.

What we do as a volunteer: Stock shelves - weigh things that come in (everything needs to be weighed.) Every Monday, cut up cardboard. Art gets truck unloaders to help. Help pick up sometimes.

Why we enjoy volunteering: It helps people who need help (financially), and children who need food. The food helps at schools.

One thing we've learned as a volunteer: Some people are very grateful, others are after all they can get. We go no matter what.

The Food Pantry needs: Toilet paper, Kleenex, (extra things). We buy lots of the extras.
