MONROE - Area roads continue to be flooded but relief is on the way.

Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick said County MM, West River Road, Tin Can Road and County E remain water-covered this morning. Roderick said there could possibly be water over township roads but none have been reported to the sheriff's department.

In Lafayette County, the sheriff's department reported County K, Pecatonica Road, Cisserville Road and Larse Road remain under water this morning.

Motorists should avoid driving through flooded areas because it's unknown what is beneath the water. It's possible the road could be washed out under the water and driving through a flooded area could be dangerous.

Rivers in Green and Lafayette counties remain high following last week's storms that saw several inches of rain fall on the area. A flood warning continues for the Pecatonica River at Martintown.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), at 4 a.m. today the water was at 18 feet, more than 4.5 feet above flood stage. A flood warning remains in effect until Friday for people living along the river. A flood warning means that flooding has been observed.

"Some homes in the Martintown area are affected by the floodwaters," the NWS reported.

The Sugar River near Brodhead also remains above flood level. The water was at more than 7 feet this morning. Flood stage for the river is 5 feet.

The NWS reports the river will fall below the flood stage by late Tuesday.

Weather reports indicate a dry week for Green and Lafayette counties.

According to the NWS, no rain is in the forecast until Friday and temperatures are expected to be in the high 70s with lows in the mid- to high 50s.
