Flood watch for local rivers

MONROE - The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Green County until Saturday afternoon.

Conditions are favorable for minor flooding along the Pecatonica River in Martintown and the Sugar River in Brodhead.

According to the National Weather Service Web site, the Pecatonica River in Martintown was at 10.58 feet at 7:15 a.m. today. Flood stage is 13.5 feet. The river is expected to reach flood stage around 7 a.m. Saturday and crest at 15.2 feet around 7 a.m. Wednesday, March 19.

At 11 feet, there is minor lowland flooding. At 13 feet, tillable farmland is flooded. At 13.5 feet, floodwaters affect Martintown Road and West River Road in the Martintown area. Upstream in Brodhead, floodwaters affect County MM and West Indies Road.

The Sugar River was at 3.95 feet at 7:15 this morning, and is expected to reach flood stage of 5 feet around midnight Saturday. The river is expected to crest at around 6.44 feet around 7 a.m. Sunday.

At 4.5 feet, minor lowland flooding occurs. At 5 feet, some roads become flooded about six miles downstream in Avon township in Rock County.
