MONROE — A fire at a local business resulted in firefighters being paged to the site twice over the weekend.
The accidental fire started at Ferrellgas in the N3100 block of Utility Lane. Monroe Fire Chief Dan Smits said smoke could be seen from the highway and was reported by people driving by. The call came just after 2:30 p.m. Firefighters were able to get to the scene quickly as a result and put out the flames, he added.
However, firefighters were paged once again just after 7 p.m. after smoke was spotted coming from the building. Smits said there were embers that remained at the peak of the building which had reignited after firefighters left. Responders were able to put it out with a small pump can, he said.
Smits estimated roughly $5,000 in damage at the scene of the fire. The business can remain within the building, he added.
