MONROE - Sarah Rogge is thankful for the support she and her fiancee and two children have received since their trailer was destroyed by a fire Monday.
"Derek and I have never been ones to ask for help," she said. "We appreciate everything people have done for us."
Derek Myhand, Rogge and their two sons. Tyrek, 5, and Kail, 3, have been staying with family since the fire Monday afternoon that destroyed their trailer.
Rogge said a friend who works at Amcore Bank in Monroe set up a fund for them. Anyone who wishes to donate can bring money to the bank.
Check Into Cash, located at 120 8th St. near Pick 'n Save, has a box for people who want to donate clothes or toys for the two boys. Rogge said the boys were sizes 5T and 3T. Any toys will be appreciated.
"We lost everything" Rogge said.
There is also a fund raiser for the family planned for 6 p.m. Friday at the Brass Monkey in South Wayne.
About 36 members of the Monroe Fire Department were dispatched at about 3:20 p.m. Monday to the home in the Monroe Estates Mobile Home Park on West 21st Street, which had become engulfed in flames.
Rogge was in Freeport working at the time.
Myhand and the boys had left the home to run errands and get groceries, which took about an hour. Myhand said he saw the smoke upon returning from the park, where he was met by a person who told him the trailer on fire was his.
The cause of the fire was a faulty window air conditioner, Fire Chief Daryl Rausch said.
