BLANCHARDVILLE - A fire Wednesday destroyed a large farmhouse that overlooked the village of Blanchardville.
Blanchardville Fire Chief Steve Zimmerman said an electrical fire apparently started in the basement of the home of David Stampfli, south of Blanchardville on Wisconsin 78.
No one was in the house at the time of the fire.
Zimmerman said Stampfli and a veterinarian were in the barn when Stampfli noticed a puff of smoke coming from the attic.
"The windows blew out as they were walking to the house," Zimmerman said.
The Blanchardville Fire Department was dispatched at about 11:30 a.m.
Argyle and Hollandale fire departments were called to assist at the scene. About 32 firefighters battled the blaze until 6 p.m. Zimmerman said the home is a total loss - about half of the damage caused by the fire and the rest from water damage.
