BELLEVILLE - No injuries were reported after a fire destroyed a Belleville residence Thursday evening.
The fire began shortly after 5 p.m. in the garage attached to the residence, located in the 3900 block of Vista Lane, Town of Belleville, said Belleville Fire Chief Brian Hollis. Workers across the street noticed the blaze and reported it at about 5:15 p.m.
Strong winds allowed the fire to expand quickly into the home, eventually destroying it completely.
Five people were in the home at the time of the fire, Hollis said. All five were able to escape unharmed.
Hollis said the fire took about an hour to be brought under control. Firefighters remained on scene for an additional four hours to fight flare-ups.
The residents of the home were a family of four adults and three children. Damage from the fire was estimated to be about $300,000.
