MONROE - A firefighter was injured after a severe fire burned down a barn in the Town of Monroe early Tuesday morning.
Monroe Fire Chief Dan Smits said a fire was reported at 11:59 p.m. Monday at Nack Construction in the N1100 block of Wisconsin 69, south of Monroe.
Twenty-fire truck responded to the blaze, some from fire departments as far away as Davis, Illinois, Orfordville and Freeport.
Smits said the fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, although the fire destroyed the structure and everything inside, which was mostly construction equipment. Smits estimated the fire caused damages in excess of $250,000.
Although nobody was inside the barn at the time, one firefighter sustained a minor injury for which the firefighter was treated and released at Monroe Clinic, Smits said. Smits said he was unsure of the fire department the injured firefighter was from but stated the firefighter was not a member of the Monroe Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, Smits said. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
