BRODHEAD - The City Council here is still considering who to appoint as interim fire chief after meeting again in closed session Wednesday night, Mayor Doug Pinnow said after the meeting.

Pinnow had hoped an interim chief would be named after the discussion, but instead the council will meet again in closed session at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, he said.

"We want to make sure we do the right thing," he said.

An interim chief will take over after Chief Jay Bohan's contract expires Friday. The council voted 3-2 earlier this month in favor of not renewing Bohan's contract.,When the council discussed the renewal of Bohan's contract last year, firefighters raised concerns about his performance as the city's first full-time chief. Two committees last year unanimously recommended against hiring Bohan, but the city council voted 5-0 in July 2010 to renew his contract for one year.
