MONROE - Two fire alarms set off at the Monroe Middle School on Wednesday, March 5 were the result of a defective smoke detector.
The school was evacuated for both alarms, the first at 12:30 p.m. and the second at 2:40 p.m.
The Monroe Fire Department found the defective smoke detector in the school's northeast stairwell on the third floor, Fire Chief Daryl Rausch said.
