MONROE - At the Monroe High School Fine Arts Festival April 25 and 26, a biannual event, 38 artists participated in hands-on activities, lectures, and performances presented by master artists, craftsman, musicians, poets, storytellers and authors. Events were those not offered in the high school's regular curriculum. Festival chairmen Kathy King and Gail Eiserman found financial support outside of the school budget for the festival.

During the festival Suzanne Miller and Nikki Cooper hosted a sculpture challenge; the challenge theme was "Art as a Healing Tool." The completed sculptures were sold at the art show for $175. The money was donated to the Green County Humane Society.

Activities on April 25 included the Spring Art Show, the Empty Bowl dinner, a free student-directed play and the schools' first High School Arts and Academic Awards Night.

For the Empty Bowl dinner, 75 ceramic students, staff and local potters threw and donated bowls to be sold. The event raised $1,273 for the Green County Food Pantry.
