MONROE - The final concert of the Monroe City Band's 2015 season will feature French horn soloist Dr. Jeff Suarez. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Twining Park band shell.
Suarez is the director of the concert band and jazz band at University of Wisconsin-Rock County and has extensive performing and composing credits. He will be playing the "Romance In F" by Camille Saint Saens as part of a program of international music, which will complete the band's 66th season.
Also included in the concert's selections will be "Dance Of The Amazons" by Russian composer Anatole Liadov, A Brazilian piece called "Mas Que Nada," a collection of French folk songs arranged by Wisconsin composer Pierre LaPlante, Robert Longfield's "Italian Holiday," "Africa" by the rock group Toto, an Austrian polka entitled "Tritsch-Tratsch" and excerpts from the Russian ballet "Firebird."
Looking ahead, the band's annual Christmas concert will be held Dec. 6, with rehearsals beginning Oct. 12. New members will be accepted at that time. To join, contact director Randy Schneeberger at 608-325-9722.
