MADISON - Nathan Russell, Republican candidate for the 51st Assembly District, has picked up an endorsement.

The Volunteers For Agriculture Committee, the political action arm of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, is endorsing the Sauk City resident in his campaign against first-term incumbent Rep. Steve Hilgenberg, D-Dodgeville.

"Nathan Russell's unmatched work ethic and passion for agriculture would make him an excellent addition to our State Assembly," said Paul Zimmerman, executive director of public affairs for the Wisconsin Farm Bureau. "His past experiences as the president of the Wisconsin FFA Association and commitment to his community would be great assets both to his constituents and our state's $51 billion agricultural industry."

Russell grew up on his family's dairy farm in Shullsburg. He was elected to serve as the state FFA president, and he traveled across the state promoting agriculture and agricultural education. He later earned a B.S. in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a teaching certificate in agricultural education and a law degree.

He and his wife, Jennifer, have both taught agricultural education to urban students at the Agricultural and Food Science Academy located in the Twin Cities.

Today, Russell assists farmers and small businesses as an agriculture and commercial lender with a local credit union.

The 51st Assembly District consists of all of Iowa County, and portions of Lafayette, Sauk and Richland counties. The general election is Nov. 4.
