2015 Green County Fairest of the Fair
Come one, come all to the Green County Fair from Wednesday to July 26 at the Fairgrounds in Monroe. My name is Whitney Disch, and I am the 2015 Green County Fairest of the Fair. All summer I have been traveling across the county promoting the 161st Green County Fair, and I had an absolute blast. From riding around in parades to handing out information about the fair at local events, I had a pleasure meeting all the wonderful people of Green County, all while being an ambassador for the fair I grew up showing at.
This year, we have many awesome events and activities to keep the whole family busy all week. For the first time we have an opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Colony Brands Amphitheater (grandstand) followed by the Three Hills Rodeo at 7 p.m. This is a free grandstand event. On Thursday, we have the Badger State Tractor Pull at 6:30 p.m., which costs $5 to attend. On Friday, Craig Campbell will be joining The Zac Matthews Band on the grandstand at 7 p.m. The cost is $10. July 25 is Kids Day, meaning that admission is free for kids under 12 years old until 1:30 p.m. At 10 a.m. is the Pedal Pull for kids 3 through 10 years of age, and this event is sponsored by Carousel Farms. Also at 10 a.m. is the 4-H and FFA Fur and Feather Auction followed by the Youth Livestock Auction at 12:30 p.m. At 6 p.m. is the Master Showman competition, and at 7 p.m. in the grandstand is the Wisconsin Lawn Mowers Racing Association, which is another free grandstand event. The last day is July 26, starting off with the Antique Tractor Pull from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the infield of the grandstand. The Cheese and Dairy Youth Auction will be held in the hospitality tent at noon. At 4 p.m. is the popular Demolition Derby, which costs $10 to attend.
Admission into the fair is $8 for adults, $3 for kids eight to 12, and kids under 8 are free. A season pass costs $20, and on Sunday people over 65 get in for $5.
This year North American Midway Entertainment provides the carnival, which is a new midway for the Green County Fair. Unlimited rides are $25 each day, so be sure to take a break from checking out all the awesome 4-H and FFA projects to go ride some fun rides.
There are so many events and activities going on at the 161st Green County Fair that there is sure to be something for everyone. I hope to see you there, and don't forget to "Fair It Up!"
