FREEPORT, Ill. - Hasken Construction in Freeport was announced Wednesday as the builder of a new home for a lucky northwest Illinois family for the Emmy-award winning ABC Television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
With a goal to complete the new house in one week (actual construction time: 106 hours), Hasken Construction will be leading literally thousands of local volunteers in the effort beginning with the identification of the family on Sept. 9.
"We received this invitation just over a week ago and our first reaction was: a house in 106 hours? That's impossible!" said Rick Hasken. "Then we started calling potential partners for us in the project and the response was overwhelming. The outpourings of genuine Midwestern generosity in helping a family that none of us know has been truly inspiring. With all the support we found, we quickly decided that we CAN do it, we MUST do it, and we're excited to get started."
"We need lots of help," Hasken continued. "Volunteers are needed for all kinds of work from skilled carpenters and trades people to general help for which no particular skill is needed. If you have an interest, we'll have a job for you! We need all kinds of materials and services, and we also need monetary donations for goods and services that are not donated. We'll keep an updated list on our Web site, and we urge folks to visit the site at www.haskenconstruction.com to volunteer or donate."
Ty Pennington, team leader of the show, as well as his design team, will notify the selected family by showing up at the family's northwest Illinois residence on Sept. 9.
