PLATTEVILLE — The Wisconsin Energy Institute and Wisconsin’s K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) will hold a KidWind Challenge Educator Workshop from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Markee Pioneer Student Center at UW-Platteville, a state university known for its exceptional engineering programs.

The event, held in the University North and South Room at the Markee Pioneer Student Center, 1 University Plaza in Platteville, includes an exclusive tour of a functioning Wisconsin wind farm.

Workshop Highlights:

Learn hot to explore the power of wind. In this workshop, attendees will review energy and electricity basics, design and test blades in a wind tunnel, explore related KEEP energy education resources, and preview ready-to-use renewable energy curriculum.

Participants will also learn about the Wisconsin KidWind Challenge that takes place in the spring each year, and gain tips for coaching student teams through the process of designing and constructing small-scale turbines. Educators will leave with the resources and confidence to use renewable energy as a lens into hands-on science, technology, and engineering exploration in the classroom — plus free gear valued at over $130. Attendees will also tour the Quilt Block Wind Farm.

Register soon to ensure a free KidWind Turbine Kit. For more details, visit go.wisc.edu/kidwind or email outreach@energy.wisc.edu, agbender@wisc.edu or spwilliams@wisc.edu.
