DARLINGTON - An Evansville man faces a charge of first-degree sexual assault of a child and a related charge after he allegedly sexually molested two young girls.
Timothy James Edwards, 30, was charged in Lafayette County Circuit Court Friday for forcing sexual contact and touching the children inappropriately multiple times between December of 2014 and April of 2015.
One of the victims described numerous sexual acts that she said Edwards had performed on her. The other victim was too young to provide testimony; the older victim said Edwards had touched the younger victim "over and over again."
Edwards denied the allegations, but acknowledged that "somebody has to be doing something" to the children. Edwards said he believed the victims were mistaking him for the actual perpetrator.
Edwards submitted to a DNA test, which found no matches with the results of the victims' sexual assault examinations. A search of his phone yielded no suspicious information.
If found guilty, Edwards could face up to 20 years in prison.
Edwards will appear in court on Feb. 1 for his initial appearance. At press time, he had not been jailed.
