MONROE - State Sen. Jon Erpenbach, D-Waunakee, is glad he's not a Republican.

If he were, he said, he'd be panicked about presidential nominee Sen. Jon McCain's choice for vice president, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

As a Democrat, he said Tuesday he's puzzled by the choice.

"With all due respect to Sen. McCain, It's not a responsible pick to make," said Erpenbach, who was visiting Monroe on behalf of Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama's campaign. "He can't talk about lack of experience now, and the pick is a real concern for me."

Some of the harshest criticism of Obama has been his lack of experience. Erpenbach said Obama has experience on the world and national stage.

Palin, on the other hand, has been governor of the country's largest state in size for 18 months, Erpenbach said, and served as mayor of Wasilla, a small Alaskan town, before that.

Erpenbach said in order to win Wisconsin, Obama needs "to come here as often as he possibly can."

"The more people who meet him, the more they're going to identify with him," Erpenbach said.
