MONROE - For the 30th consecutive year, the Monroe Arts Center will sponsor the Wisconsin Regional Arts Program Competition and Exhibit. All artwork submitted for competition will be on exhibit from April 7 through June 9 in Monroe Arts Center's Frehner Gallery.
The event is co-sponsored by the Monroe Arts Center and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Continuing Studies.
The program encourages non-professional, student and emerging artists to create and exhibit their work in WRAP competitions and artist workshops held in regions across Wisconsin throughout the year. The competition is open to all area non-professional artists who are at least 14 years old.
Work must be original; no molds or patterns from another artist may be used. Up to two entries per artist are allowed and all media are accepted such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, sculpture, fiber, metal, glass, wood, prints, pastel and digital. All work must have been completed after January 2015.
The entry fee to compete, exhibit artwork and attend the June 10 artist workshop in Monroe is $30 per artist. Two pieces of artwork per artist are allowed. The entry form and the $30 registration fee are due at Monroe Arts Center by 5 p.m. March 24. Artwork for the exhibit may only be delivered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 31 or April 1.
Monroe Arts Center will hold an artist workshop day from 9:30 a.m. to noon June 10. A demonstration and lecture by professional artist Jonathan Wilde of Blanchardville will be the focus of the workshop. Wilde also will serve as the judge for this competition.
Both state and honorable mention awards will be given in Monroe. State award-winners selected from all 2017 WRAP competitions held throughout Wisconsin will be on display at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from Aug. 18 through Sept. 23.
