MONROE - For the 28th consecutive year, Monroe Arts Center is seeking photographs for inclusion in the photography contest and exhibit.
The contest is open to nonprofessional photographers, and participants are not required to be Wisconsin residents. Photographs entered in this contest will be on exhibit in MAC's Frehner Gallery from Sept. 8 through Oct. 27. An opening reception for this exhibit is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 8 with an awards presentation at 6 p.m.
The two classifications for the contest are adult and junior, which is under 18 years of age. Since last year, the following changes to the entry requirements and awards have been made. There are no categories and no limit to the number of photographs entered. The entry fee for adults is $20 per photograph and $10 per photograph for juniors.
The awards in the adult classification are $125 for best of show; $75 for first place; $50 for second place; $25 for third place; and ribbon awards for fourth and fifth places. The awards in the junior classification are $50 for best of show; $30 for first place; $25 for second place; $20 for third place; and ribbon awards for fourth and fifth places. Honorable mention ribbons may be given in both classifications. The deadline to enter is Aug. 18.
The work by two Wisconsin photographers also will be on display Sept. 8 through Oct. 27. In the Wellington Gallery will be the exhibit "That Tree" by Mark Hirsch and in the Muranyi Gallery will be "Firelines" by Jill Metcoff.
