MONROE - The Green County Green energy assistance program saw a record number of households seeking help last year.
The program, which ended Sept. 30, logged 1,627 applicants, compared to 1,286 the previous year - an increase of roughly 26 percent. As such, related payments to fuel vendors for participating households totaled $847,662.
The county also issued energy crisis funds to 223 households, totaling an additional $89,691; and six furnaces were replaced or repaired with furnace funds, totaling $17,379.
All payments are sent directly to the fuel or furnace vendor.
Those interested in applying for the 2010/2011 energy assistance programs that started Oct. 1 should schedule an appointment; or request an application by calling Green County Human Services, (608) 328-9344.Participants must meet income guidelines. For example, a family of four cannot exceed $47,245 in annual income to qualify - $62,364 for a family of six.
