Election declaration deadline looms

The deadline for candidates seeking office in the Wisconsin spring election to turn in campaign registration statements and declarations of candidacy is no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

If nomination papers are required for the position sought, they must be submitted by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The spring election in Green County and the surrounding area includes Green County government; positions in the cities of Brodhead, Darlington and Monroe; positions in the villages of Albany, Argyle, Browntown, Gratiot, Monticello, New Glarus and South Wayne; and school boards in Albany, Argyle, Black Hawk, Brodhead, Darlington, Juda, Monroe, New Glarus, Monticello and Pecatonica.

There are various elections at the town level.

Prospective candidates should check with the clerk in the municipality for which they are seeking office for the exact requirements per the municipality. Municipalities and school districts may have referendums specific to their unit of government.

If needed, there will be primary elections on Feb. 18 for the spring general election on April 7. The spring general election is the date of Wisconsin’s presidential preference primary election.
