BENTON TOWNSHIP - A 32-year-old man was arrested for drunk driving after his truck crashed into a ravine and started on fire.

Matthew M. Copeland, Cuba City, was uninjured in the crash that occurred Wednesday, April 2 on Kennedy Road. A Lafayette County Sheriff's press release alleges Copeland was northbound on Kennedy Road when he lost control of his 1993 Ford truck, left the roadway and stopped in a ravine. The truck then caught fire and lit some of the surrounding grass.

The Benton Fire Department was alerted to extinguish the fire. The truck sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene.

Copeland was arrested for drunk driving, third offense, and failure to have control of a vehicle. Copeland was later released to a responsible party. Online court records indicate Copeland was convicted of driving drunk, second offense, in September 2007.
