TOWN OF DECATUR — A Brodhead man was arrested for suspected drunk driving after driving away from a crash injured and with a tire missing from his vehicle, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash in the W2600 block of County FF, Town of Decatur, shortly before 5 p.m. Oct. 22. A witness reported the vehicle’s front left tire was missing as the driver drove away.
The offending vehicle was located in the W2200 block of County SS.
An investigation by deputies found Kevin J. Venden, 35, Brodhead, had been eastbound on County FF when he failed to negotiate a curve and lost control. His vehicle entered the ditch and hit a power pole.
Venden reported not wearing a seatbelt. Brodhead EMS transported him to the Mercy Clinic ER in Janesville for the non-life threatening injuries he sustained in the crash.
Venden was then jailed on a felony fifth-offense charge of operating while intoxicated. He signed a $5,000 signature bond the next day in Green County Circuit Court, with conditions that he not drink or go into bars or liquor stores. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license.
He is due back in court Nov. 20 for a preliminary hearing.
Court records show he was sentenced in 2014 in Green County to six months in jail and three years on probation for his fourth OWI conviction, with a passenger younger than 16.
