YORK — Green County Sheriff’s deputies responded Friday morning to a crash at an intersection that left both drivers injured.

The sheriff’s office found that 71-year-old James J. MacDonald of Madison was driving northbound on County J before looking to turn on to Wisconsin 39. Green County Sheriff Mark Rohloff said MacDonald likely failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with a vehicle being driven by Cassandra C. Volgelsberg, 26, Blanchardville.

Volgelsberg sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison by private transportation.

MacDonald was seriously injured in the crash and transported by local EMS to the UW Hospital in Madison. Both vehicles were severely damaged and had to be towed. The crash remains under investigation.

New Glarus firefighters and EMTs assisted at the scene.
