TOWN OF MONROE — An Argyle man with four drunk driving convictions on his record was arrested for the same offense June 21 after a head-on crash that injured him and the other driver, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas L. Carothers, 56, faces a fifth-offense charge of operating while under the influence of alcohol. He was released pending court.

The crash happened at about 6:40 p.m. on Wis. 81 east of Skinner Hollow Road, Town of Monroe.

Carothers was eastbound when he lost control on a curve. His 1979 GMC pickup truck crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an oncoming westbound 2017 Prius. Both vehicles came to rest in the north ditch

The other driver, Kimberly M. Lewis, 61, Monroe, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Carothers sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Monroe Clinic ER.

Both vehicles were severely damaged and towed. Lewis’ airbags had deployed. Green County EMS and the Monroe Fire Department assisted deputies on scene.

Carothers was also cited for operating left of center, failure to maintain control of a vehicle, driving with a suspended license, no vehicle insurance and non-registration of an auto. He was released pending a mandatory court appearance.
