Driver charged in buggy hit-and-run crash
New Gavel

DARLINGTON — The driver in a hit-and-run crash on a horse-drawn buggy in September has been charged with a felony related to the incident.

Jennifer Lynn McKee, 33, Warren, has an initial appearance Nov. 4 in Lafayette County Circuit Court on the felony charge of hit-and-run causing great bodily harm. The Class E felony carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

She also faces a citation of vehicle owner’s liability for failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, McKee was driving the 2015 GMC Arcadia that rear-ended the buggy on Wisconsin 81 near Darlington shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. The impact threw the buggy into the ditch, killing the horse, injuring the buggy driver and severely damaging the buggy.

The buggy driver, Joseph S. King, 20, Darlington, was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.

McKee’s identity was confirmed after deputies followed up on a tip from an anonymous caller, according to Sheriff Reg Gill.
